Phast4U FAQs

  • What happens if you need information that I don’t have?

If you don't have all the information about your scenarios, we almost always can solve the problem. We'll work with you to find ways to obtain the information, or make reasonable estimates for the missing information. We can discuss the details with you via email, text or phone.

  • Why have some graphs not been included in the report?

Not all models produce all the graphs. A purely toxic material will not produce any graphs for jet fires, etc. Also, if a release is elevated and no significant quantity of it reaches ground level, there won’t be any ground level footprint graphs. Any relevant graph that is produced by the Phast software will be included in your report.

  • Can you model any mixtures and chemicals?

Yes - almost any chemical can be modelled in Phast. As well as the 100+ chemicals contained in Phast, there is access to over 50,000 chemicals in the DIPPR database which is linked to Phast. However, sometimes the data in the DIPPR database does not contain essential information and estimations need to be used. Mixtures of any of the chemicals can be easily modelled in Phast.

  • Where can I find out more information about Phast?

The best way to find out more about Phast is simply to search online. DNV, who provide licences for the software, have a lot of information about PHAST available on their website - however, the licences are very costly, and special training is required to learn how to use it.

  • What do I do if the results seem wrong or inconsistent?

If something seems wrong in the results we send you, reach out to us. We can help explain any reasons for Phast producing “funny” results, and have experienced lots of results that seem wrong but, upon investigation, are perfectly reasonable.

  • I have used different modelling methods in the past - will the Phast results be different?

Other modelling software, such as FRED, RiskCurves, Degadis etc. often use different types of mathematical models, which will produce different results to Phast. The differences should be minor for the other sophisticated model software but may be considerable for older versions of software or simpler software. Phast is one of the best software platforms for modelling available.

Phast Resource Library

  • Phast Material Properties

This paper examines the material property database within Phast with the focus on adding a new material to the database so that release models can be developed using the new material.
